– I had a couple of hours layover in Sydney on Tuesday and being a beautiful sunny 22 degree (celsius) winter’s day, I took the airport train into the city, found a bench to sit on in Martin Place (the centre of the financial area) and checked out the lunchtime legs.
As I come from sub tropical Brisbane the first thing I noticed was the high percentage of girls wearing dark pants or opaques, which I notice is causing some disquiet amongst our UK and US fraternity.
However, there were some excellent sightings as all the women who were wearing skirt suits were also wearing fine hosiery and of those several (five) flashed stocking tops as they strode past, so my guess is that many more actually wear stockings just their skirt lengths or design wouldn’t allow me to prove it.
I noticed too that there was a high number of fishnets, both maxi and very fine ones, so these women obviously do think about their hosiery, but because the (very many) posters in the shop windows show fishnets, they go and buy them. (If the posters showed stockings then I suppose, they would buy them instead.)
Back at the airport, I picked up a copy of Marie Claire which contained a 10 page spread on accessories with most of the models wearing stockings… with lists of stockists etc. Now how many women read Marie Claire?
So my summing up of what I saw in our largest city? …
Perhaps if we can get more women’s magazines to run features with girls in stockings, and more posters in shop windows showing stockings we will get the necessary revolution going back our way again. They only buy what they see!
– I have fond memories of my trip to “Oz” back in 1987. In the three cities I visited (Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane), all manner of women – including businesswomen, policewomen, staff in a fast food restaurant, even a woman at an aussie-rules football game – showed various telltale signs of wearing stockings! I even recall seeing a billboard where the re-inforced heel on the stocking of one of the models was showing! Very impressive indeed.
It got me to thinking that maybe I should emigrate downunder. Alas, I haven’t gotten around to doing that, and I haven’t found an occasion for a return visit. But, for a stocking enthusiast, it was “sheer” heaven back then. One can only hope that not too much has changed?
G’day people. I come from the land down under… And I am mighty pleased to come across this site. Oh yes I can say that Australian women just love to wear stockings and the city is heaven for a guy like me who likes legs in stockings.
